1/5/2015 P-Day #9

Hola!

So I'm going to apologize in advance... We weren't planning on going to email right now so I don't have my camera or my planner with me so this email might be a little bit short!

Thank you Alison and the Hickens for the letters this week! And thanks to the Leatherman's for the Christmas present!

This week has been really slow! Both Elder Taylor and I were sick and we each had to stay inside for one day each! President and Sister Mullen are really adamant about us staying in for the day if we're sick.. But we spent a lot of time finding people to teach. We'd been struggling with remembering to ask everyone we talked to for referrals, but we've done that every day this week! And we got a ton of referrals! Now we have a lot of people to go and visit! Nobody has been super solid yet, but we're still trying! New Year's Eve was fun. We had dinner with a less active family and then we spent the night with other missionaries at the Stake Center. On New Year's day, we spent all morning cleaning our area of the house!

On Monday we went miniature golfing with all the elders in our zone. It was so much fun! Part of the course was shut down so we got free passes for another round! We're going back today after we email. So I guess about a year ago, there were some not kosher things going on between some elders and sisters in the mission so the mission president segregated elders and sisters so that's why we don't ever do any activities with the sister missionaries. But President Mullen wants to change that so twice a month, our whole zone gets together for a P-Day activity. It'll be a lot of fun!

Our church changed to 11:30 and we thought that we'd have a lot of investigators come to church because all of them were super excited about the time change. Alfredo was the only one who showed up. He met with the bishop after church and bishop told us it will probably be six months to a year before he can get baptized... But we're still going to meet with him and teach him! It was fast Sunday so I was kind of worried bringing an investigator to church because sometimes the testimony meeting can be a little -iffy... But it was super great! I felt like every single testimony had some relevance to Alfredo and the struggles that he is going through right now!

I really like all of your goals! I set a couple too! So I really wanted to stop eating junk food, but that's hard because there are a lot of meal situations that I can't control. But I decided that I'm not going to eat crap food if I can control it! I also decided to read the Book of Mormon one time each transfer.

Okay so now to answer all your questions:
I always have a lot of money left over at the end of the month with the mission debit card! So I haven't had to use my personal debit card unless it was something that I shouldn't buy with the mission's money. I bought a hand bike pump at Big 5 so I could carry one with me in my bag. I actually need some good front/back lights for my bike. I was going to buy some at Big 5 but I thought you guys might be able to find a better deal on Amazon? The one light that I have right now died super fast. The batteries only last a couple days and it's not very bright. Elder Taylor has these lights that are rechargeable and they're super bright! I'll have to go get medicine this month so we'll probably go next Monday. I have no idea when we will get iPads... The mission kind of "died" when the old mission president left and there was a lot of disobedience. So the missionaries here aren't ready to get iPads yet. They're still building President's trust back up. I don't know when exactly we'll get iPads. My glasses are fine! I don't feel like I need sunglasses yet, but it's been super cloudy and cool lately but I'll probably want some in a month or two.

The best thing that I've learned so far is that obedience brings blessings! A couple weeks ago, President Mullen asked us to focus on asking for referrals in all of our lessons. At first Elder Taylor and I were getting just three out of seven days a week. There was always just one lesson a day that we'd forget to ask someone in! So we weren't messing up too bad, but we still weren't getting any referrals! This last week we decided that we really needed to improve and remember to ask people who else they know that would want to meet with us or could use some help. Every day we remembered to ask for referrals and we got referrals almost every single day! It was crazy how just changing that one little thing, just remembering in that one lesson, we were able to see a ton of improvement!

I love you all and hope you all have set some good goals for this year!

Love

Elder Warren
